Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Are you hanging out with the kids in Brooklyn during spring break this week, and looking for some fun events to enjoy together? Give back to the community by volunteering to spruce up Prospect Park, enjoy a puppet show, hear stories and make crafts, and more good stuff is coming up in the neighborhood.

Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, April 16, 10am & 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Bring your kids up to 18 months old to enjoy books, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but space is limited. Pick up a ticket at the Children’s Reference Desk on the morning of the program; call for more info.

Blooming Naturalists
When: Wednesday, April 16, 12-4pm; repeats daily through April 22
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Kids can get an introduction to bird watching using fun games and activities learn what makes birds so special, with a different lesson each day.
How much: Free!

History In Your Hands: Spring Sprouts
When: Wednesday, April 16, 12-4pm; repeats daily through April 22
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Kids can help rotate and sift compost, then spread it in the plot to enrich the soil for the potato crop. Then they can make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil, and plant a seed in it to take home!
How much: $3 suggested donation

Story Craft
When: Thursday, April 17, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft.
How much: Free!

Explore & Create: Arts And Crafts For Kids
When: Friday, April 18, 4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: A weekly, free drop-in program where kids can roll up their sleeves and explore their artistic side. This week’s theme is Earth Day!
How much: Free!

Story Play
When: Saturday, April 19, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Children up to age 5 are invited to hear stories and play with toys.
How much: Free!

Goldilocks & The 3 Bears
When: Saturday, April 19, 12:30pm & 2:30pm
Where: Puppetworks, 338 6th Avenue
What: See the classic tale, adapted for hand puppets! Suggested for ages 3 and up.
How much: $8 for kids, $9 for adults, reservations are recommended, .

Junior Volunteer Corps
When: Saturday, April 19, 1:30-3:30pm
Where: Meet at the Zucker Natural Exploration Area (enter at Grand Army Plaza)
What: Families and elementary-school-aged community groups are invited to join the park for spring cleaning! Children will learn the importance of giving back to the community while making a meaningful difference in the park.
How much: Free, please register in advance here.
