It’s Everything Brooklyn At BYKlyn, Opening On Flatbush Ave This Week

BYKlyn, coming soon to 258 Flatbush Avenue
When she heard Cycle Bar was going to close its space on 5th Avenue, Amy Glosser was one of many people who worked out there who was disappointed to see it go. But rather than find someplace else to attend spin classes, Amy decided to create her own studio. And now, just a few months after making the decision, she’s opening BYKlyn, a new cycling and fitness space at 258 Flatbush Avenue.

We stopped in yesterday to take a look around as the team finished up the space, which will be ready to welcome neighbors for their opening party on Thursday, April 24 from 4-8pm, and then for some free spin classes starting this weekend.

Taking over the former Vegetarian Palate space, they’ve done quite a bit to make it unrecognizable from the meatless Chinese joint. The main fitness room is in the back, where the kitchen used to be, and they’re turning it into a funky, energetic place to spin (with a little help from Penny, their CDO, pictured above with the wall of graffiti-in-progress). And some of it may seem familiar — they acquired all of the assets from Cycle Bar, which means they’ll have 25 bikes plus one for the instructor in the space.

In the front, where they were awaiting the arrival of their entry desk, Amy says they may at some point add space to accommodate additional fitness classes like yoga, and they look forward to hosting themed events. They’re still working out the details on those, of course, but one thing’s for certain — they’ll all have a Brooklyn-centric vibe. Amy says that everything from the soap for the floors to the granola they’ll have in stock is from Brooklyn.

“Whenever we can go local, we will,” she says.

She adds that she’s worked hard to put together a fun, motivating, and enthusiastic team of instructors, and you can check them out in person for free during their first few days in operation — see the schedule here and register online (just act fast, as they’re filling up). Amy also tells us that you can enjoy two free spins and 1/2 off 5-packs of classes during the month of May.
