The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in locating a man who escaped from the back of a police car in our area on Monday evening.

Cops say that 26-year-old Darnell Thomas broke free from police custody near the 78th Precinct station house, getting out of a marked police car at Atlantic Avenue and South Portland Avenue at about 6:30pm on April 7.

He is described as 5’8″ tall, and was last seen wearing a white shirt, a jacket with gold zippers, and two gold earrings in each ear.

Reports on Twitter add that the man was still in handcuffs when he took off.

If you see him, call 911, or you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting your tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. The NYPD says all calls are confidential.
