New York Cares is hoping to collect a record number of coats this year in their 24th annual Coat Drive. The organization aims to reach their goal of 200,000 coats – more than doubling last year’s 78,000 – in hopes to meet an unprecedented need in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Collections are running now until December 31, and the site offers a cool visual aid to watch the progress of the drive borough by borough. Brooklyn is still looking pretty blue. Let’s warm our city up! Drop off clean, gently used coats here:

There are also ways beyond coat donations to help the drive. Volunteers are needed to sort coats now through January. Also, New York Cares estimates that for every $50 given, 16 coats can be dispersed. Financial donations can be made here.
