Work has begun on 4th Avenue near Garfield Place, where the three southbound lanes are becoming two wider lanes with wider parking lanes. It’s part of the 4th Avenue safety overhaul, which will see– among other changes– the switch to two lanes southbound from Pacific Street to 15th Street, and northbound from 15th Street to Carroll Street.
They’ve also updated the crosswalk at President Street, on the west side of 4th Avenue, with bright new stripes.
Traffic didn’t seem any more hectic than it usually is on the avenue, which is surprising considering the disruption between Garfield Place and 1st Street. We’re curious to see how long the whole process will take, and what the effects will be in the meantime.
