We noticed earlier this month that some old single-space parking meters along 7th and Flatbush Avenues were being turned into new bike parking racks. As it turns out, the transition is part of ongoing plan to improve North Flatbush Avenue’s overall viability as a cyclist’s thoroughfare. The DOT installed forty new racks just this month, bringing the total along the avenue up to 98. But they’re not done yet.
The North Flatbush BID has filed an application with the DOT to install a new bike corral with planters at Park Place– similar to the one recently installed on Union Street in front of Rose Water– which will be maintained with the help of the folks at Ideya. They are also working to install additional bike racks by the Modell’s wall, near Atlantic.
They need your help to make it happen! To demonstrate community support and need, the NFBID is circulating a petition for the installation of the Park Place corral, which will be presented to Community Board 8. If you think the street could benefit from more parking (and greenery!), sign here.
