New York Methodist Hospital’s application for a variance to construct its proposed new Center for Community Health at 505-525 6th Street will be reviewed by the Board of Standards and Appeals at a hearing on Tuesday, February 11. The BSA will review the plans, and has the authority to approve or reject the zoning variance.

The most recent round of revisions were approved by Community Board 6 in January, after its Landmarks/Land Use Committee had rejected initial plans in November, then approved the revisions with some conditions last month.

Many neighbors are still concerned about the project, however. Community organization Preserve Park Slope says major concerns include the scale, parking and traffic, and construction disruptions, and notes that “hospital administration has yet to present a plan to address the traffic and environmental impact a vast expansion of their medical complex will have on the surrounding residential neighborhood.”

The BSA will accept letters from the general public through the time the public hearing for the application is closed, so if you’d like to register a comment, be sure to include this information in your letter:

Address it to: Board Chair Meenakshi Srinivasan
Calendar number: 289-13-BZ
Applicant: Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP
Address of application: 473-541 6th Street Brooklyn

Then email the executive director at jmulligan@bsa.nyc.gov, or send it by mail to City of New York Board of Standards and Appeals, 250 Broadway, 29th Floor, New York, NY 10007.
