To anyone who was holding out hope that Fornino would open its doors again, I’m sorry to have to tell you this: it’s time to let go. The upscale pizzeria, which closed suddenly mid-February, was auctioned off on Sunday, and everything from the salt shakers to the sinks was up for grabs.
(Much to the dismay of any Storage Wars fans, not one person shouted “YUP!”)
No news yet on what will take over this behemoth of a space, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn. And if you’re mourning the loss of chef Michael Ayoub’s delicious pies, you’ll be happy to know that he’ll be serving them up this summer at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Grubstreet also reports that a second shop will be opening in Greenpoint.
