More details have started to emerge about the horrifying stabbing of a Dizzy’s employee outside the 8th Avenue diner early last Saturday morning.
From the Brooklyn Paper:
Guadalupe Morales — a 41-year-old late-night porter regulars call “Lupe” — was cleaning outside the eatery at the corner of Ninth Street and Eighth Avenue just before 2:10 am on Sept. 1, when a man slashed his neck, back, and chest, cops say.
The perp — described as a 20-year-old wearing a black tank top and jeans — then ran towards Prospect Park, disappearing before police could catch up.
According to the police, there’s still no word on the attacker’s motive. “Lupe is one of the sweetest guys here. There’s always smile on his face and he’s an incredibly hard worker,” Dizzy’s manager John Hurley told the paper.
The police are still hunting for the suspect.
Morales, meanwhile, is in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
To help him out with hospital bills and other recovery expenses, the Dizzy’s folks have started up informal (and soon-to-be more formal) fundraising efforts. So far, FiPS reports, “customers and co-workers have been tossing donations into a jar on Dizzy’s counter,” but a more “organized fundraising effort is expected to kick off later this week.”
Or maybe early next week? In any case, we’ll keep you posted.
