The MTA announced further delays on the Smith-9th St. station back in December, with projections of a completion date further into 2013. According to Patch.com, an MTA representative has confirmed that the F/G stop will be open and running by April, though construction will continue through June:
“Work on the platform level of the Smith-9th Sts. station is complete with the installation of all new platform surfaces, new platform edge rubbing boards, new lighting and a new public address system,” stated Deirdre Parker, a representative of the MTA. “Work continues on the new, more spacious control house and the reshaping of the enclosure of the escalator/stairs to improve customer flow.”
Notes from a Capital Program Oversight Committee Meeting in December cite the cause of the delay as “contractor’s poor management, insufficient manpower and quality control, and other design issues.”
