Well, that didn’t take long.
Brooklyn Brine has announced that they’ll be opening Pickle Shack— a new bar and eatery serving pickles, sandwiches, and exclusively Dogfish Head Brewery beer– in the former Root Hill Burger location at 256 Fourth Avenue.
“It’s a take on a neighborhood pub with elevated fare,” Brooklyn Brine owner Shamus Jones tells us. “We’re going to have all kinds of crazy, new, and inventive pickles, killer sandwiches. We’re infusing the beer with seasonal and micro-seasonal herbs and fresh hops.”
All of that beer is coming from the Delaware-based micro-brewery Dogfish Head, but the brews won’t be relegated to just the tap–the Pickle Shack will also be using them for in-house pickle and condiment infusions. It’s a logical progression in a collaboration that started just about a year ago with the first-of-its-kind and wildly popular Hop-Pickle, made with Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA, caramelized onions, and Cascade hops.
“We were so happy when Sam [Calagione, Dogfish Head founder] contacted us a year ago, and this is our love letter back to them,” Shamus says. “There’s no bar in New York City that serves only Dogfish. It was a no brainer.”
He continues, “We have a strong manufacturer-to-manufacturer relationship, but we really are friends.”
Shamus is currently projecting an opening in mid- to late July, hopefully releasing a firmer date by the end of the week. With a “killer backyard”– complete with bocce ball set– we’re anticipating that this Pickle Shack quickly becomes a summer hotspot.
