Brownstoner reported news from an anonymous tipster that the rundown building at 187 Seventh Avenue sold last week, “in a closing that lasted all night.” The mysterious sale, if true, could be the necessary step in finally updating the notorious eyesore.
The building’s former owners struggled under foreclosure pressure early last year, and even expressed plans for maintaining an art gallery on the ground floor and renovating the upper floors for residences. Still, the building has remained mostly vacant, and its dilapidation has been a source of frustration for neighbors.
No news yet on any definite plans for the building, or any details on the buyers themselves, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more. And if you have any tips, let us know!
