Old First Nursery school, via website

Though the public school pre-K admissions process won’t begin until March, most private schools have been accepting applications since last month. Many of you may already be deep into the the process (and a few more may already be finished!) but registration is still open, and two open houses are around the corner. Here are the details:

Old First Nursery School, 729 Carroll Street at 7th Avenue
Founded in 1959, OFNS is a non-denominational parent cooperative and  has adopted an integrated-art, active-learning and play-centered approach to education.
Application Deadline: February 13, available here.
Open House: Saturday, January 12, 12-3pm, RSVP required.

Brooklyn Free Space, 298 6th Avenue between 2nd & 3rd Streets
This non-denominational preschool, also a parent cooperative, strives to reflect the diversity in the community within their program. They emphasize the continual development of positive self-image in the children, while building collaborative social relationships.
Application Deadline: February 8, available at open house.
Open House: Thursday, January 10, 7-9pm

Park Slope Child Care Collective186 St. Johns Place at 7th Avenue
The non-profit Collective offers a supportive, collaborative, and diverse environment for the kids. Parental involvement is a core value and requirement. The open house has passed, but there are still a few days left before the application is due.

CBE Early Childhood Center274 Garfield Place at 8th Avenue
Congregation Beth Elohim’s ECC follows a developmental-interactive approach to education, meaning they base their curriculum on principles of child development, while fostering active interaction between the children and the people and materials in their environment.
Application Deadline: No strict date, but administrative assistant Bev Ackerley emphasizes “soon.” Re-registration for current students and applications for Temple members are being processed until Friday, after which non-members will be placed into a lottery. Application available here.
