If you’re still looking to find the perfect fit in exercise routines, you might want to check out Pilates. The body conditioning method helps to build core muscle strength and flexibility, and focuses on spinal alignment, breathing, and balance. Here are some local gyms and trainers to guide you along the way.

Bodycraft, 142 Prospect Park West at 9th Street
About: Bodycraft is Park Slope’s oldest Pilates studio, founded in 1997 by Lana Halvorsen. Lana and her team specialize in highly individualized one-hour private sessions, which begin with a “listening session” to assess how you and your body are doing and to plan the session accordingly. Besides strength- and flexibility-building, the sessions focus on body balance and incorporate aspects of yoga, massage, acupuncture, and dance. The studio also offers group classes (full schedule here) in different skill levels of mat work, yoga, and meditation.
Cost: Private sessions are $80 each, $310 for four, $450 for six, or $600 for eight. Group classes are $23 each, $110 for five, or $210 for ten.

Bodytonic, 150 Fifth Avenue at St. John’s Place
About: Bodytonic is a full-service Pilates gymnasium that specializes in private and semi-private (1-4 people) training. Each session is 55 minutes long, and the gym recommends training at least twice a week. Bodytonic also offers group classes (full schedule here) including circuit training, a specific abs-focused class, and mats/springs classes for different skill levels.
Cost: The first two private sessions are sold as a package for $99; following that it’s $70/session or $650 for ten sessions. Semi-private sessions are $45/session or $400 for ten sessions. Open group mat classes $20 each; 12-week workshops that include matwork and props are $210. Full pricing information is available here.
Current Promotions: New clients get the two sessions for $99 deal. And, while it’s not a promotion per se, the gym is organizing a Pilates and yoga retreat to Tulum, Mexico during the week of February 15.

Ellie Herman Studios, 788 Union Street between 6th & 7th Avenues; 463 4th Street between 7th & 8th Avenues
About: Ellie’s Union Street studio offers private and semi-private sessions, group classes, and physical rehabilitation. All private sessions begin with an initial consultation in order to design an individualized program and to address needs and goals. Instructors will also develop home routines to continue training between sessions. More group classes are available at Ellie’s 4th Street annex, including mat and springboard work, prenatal yoga, mom and baby classes, and combination dance/martial arts/aerobics.
Cost: Private sessions vary depending on skill level of the instructor, ranging from $150-215 for three sessions. Intake meetings also vary by instructor and range from $40-65. Group classes are $20 for the first class, and then $25-35 per class, $230-310 for ten, and $440-640 for twenty.

The Fifth Line, 145 Sterling Place at 7th Avenue
About: Janine Flasschoen and her team of trainers have been teaching Pilates, yoga, the Gyrotonic Method, and the Alexander technique at The Fifth Line since 2006. Instructors offer one-on-one and semi-private sessions, as well as group classes using mat work and spring tension equipment. The studio has recently added a prenatal Pilates class as well as Pilates for Buff Bones, which focuses on bone-strengthening techniques while focusing on alignment and balance.
Cost: Single private sessions are $85-100 per session, $405-475 for five, and $780-900 for ten. Classes are $18 per class, $85 for five, $160 for ten, or $175 for unlimited monthly classes. Open workout sessions in the studio are $25. More information on rates is available here.
