The Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket is starting 2013 strong with the return of its Winter Warriors challenge. Over the next 13 weeks, they’ll be giving out prizes for checking in at the GAP Info Tent at each market. Shoppers who check in 10 out of 13 weeks will be entered into a raffle for a great grand prize. Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you don’t need some fresh, local produce, so layer up and get those goodies!
Over at the Park Slope Farmers’ Market, they’ve switched to their winter vendors. This means fewer booths, but it also means the addition of two newcomers: Pie Lady & Son from Nyack, NY and Red Barn Bakery from Irvington, NY. Treat yourself to one of Pie Lady’s rotating “pies of the month,” which currently include pumpkin, chocolate fudge, pecan, and an assortment of apple, pear, and berry concoctions. If you’re not looking to bring home a whole 10-incher, don’t worry. They’ve usually got one pie at a time designated for orders by the slice.
Red Barn Bakery brings the savory and the sweet with their 100% organic tarts, pies, cookies, and muffins. Some seasonal specials include the strawberry rhubarb pie, peach plum crumb, roasted beet and goat cheese tart, and gluten-free Morning Glory muffins. Both vendors will be at the Winter Market for the full season.
The GAP Greenmarket runs Saturdays from 8am-4pm at Grand Army Plaza. The Park Slope Farmers Market runs Sundays from 10am-4pm along 4th Street at 5th Ave.
