50 New Trees Coming To 4th Avenue

Future Tree Pits on 4th Avenue

It looks like parts of 4th Avenue are about to get a lot greener — but not until this snow gets out of the way, of course.

Pre-snow, we spotted some markings for tree pits on the sidewalks of 4th Avenue around Degraw and Sackett, and checked in with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, who tells us that they’ll be putting in 50 trees along the avenue.

“If the weather permits, they will be planted in the next few weeks,” says Parks spokesperson Meghan Lalor. “We are also planning to install guards around the newly planted trees in the spring.”

Want to make sure those trees survive? Consider adopting one and caring for it, or becoming a TreeLC Care Captain and leading neighbors on your block to care for 10 trees. Everyone who walks down 4th Avenue under the hot summer sun will appreciate it!
