If you’re having trouble picking out the perfect gift this year, consider commemorative giving. The Prospect Park Alliance offers two options:

1. The Woodlands Restoration Sapling, $75

Small saplings are planted in locations selected by the Prospect Park Natural Resources Crew each spring and fall. The gift will be acknowledged with a special certificate, but because of the large scale of the planting projects, the donors won’t know the sapling’s location or species. This is a bit of a bummer if you wanted to go visit “your” tree. Order online here.

2. Communal Arbor Day Tree, $100

This is less of giving a tree and more of giving the opportunity to be part of a communal event. Each Arbor Day, a tree is planted in Prospect Park. The tree is open for multiple donors to contribute to, and all Arbor Day Tree donors are invited to the tree planting on Arbor Day 2013 (4/26/2013). The location and species will be chosen by the Prospect Park arborist. The gift will be acknowledged with a special certificate. Order online here.

Both are noble causes to support, especially needed after the damage done by Hurricane Sandy. The estimated number of trees lost is now up to 500, so restoration is vital.

Orders must be placed by this Friday at noon if you’d like to get the paper certificate in time for Christmas. More information available here.

I love this idea and have been trying to come up with a gift for my husband! just want to make sure that the page you link to is the correct one for a tree. It doesn’t seem to say anything about that.
