It’s happening! It’s really happening! Shake Shack announced today that it’s second Brooklyn location will be at 170 Flatbush Avenue, right at 5th Avenue and across from Barclays. From the press release:
“Our second Brooklyn location will be directly across from the Barclays Center and plant us firmly within walking distance of several neighborhoods from Park Slope to Fort Greene,” said Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO. “New York City is our hometown, and the Shack will be the place where New Yorkers can come together to celebrate the best of Brooklyn’s thriving culture, sports and entertainment.”
The modern day roadside-style burger stand has gathered a cult following for its all-natural burgers, flat-top dogs, and frozen custard. It will maintain its “Stand for Something Good” mission statement with the new location, which will be constructed with “a variety of recycled and sustainable materials, and feature energy-efficient kitchen equipment and lighting,” including tabletops made from reclaimed bowling alleys.
If all goes according to schedule, we’ll be in Shake Shack bliss by Fall 2013.
But as we get ready to welcome one eatery, we’re bracing ourselves for a farewell to another: things are not looking so great for Fornino. The upscale pizzeria at Fifth Avenue and Carroll Street posted signs for renovation with a reopening date of February 4, but is yet to open business again. Here’s Park Slope notes that the website is down, along with a rumor that the staff walked out last week.
Have any tips on its fate? Let us know!
