It’s been over two years since the women’s clothing store City Casuals (223 Seventh Avenue) closed, and over a year since news broke that “Bar Seven” would be taking its place. It may no longer be called Bar Seven, but the new spot looks to open within the next two months.
Over the weekend, I caught owners Lisa Anne (whose mother owned City Casuals) and Chris, and talked a bit about the progress. Though it’s “taking longer than [they] expected,” construction is coming along– they were waiting on Con Ed as we spoke. And while the name “Bar Seven” is still in the running, they’re tossing around other options as well.
What they do know is that it will be a lounge– “not a pub, not a tavern,” Lisa Anne emphasizes, but a nice, relaxed spot to get a drink with friends. It will be the only of its kind on Seventh Avenue, at least on this side of 9th. This is exciting insofar as it’s offering an option for Slopers who are sometimes even too lazy to walk to Fifth (ahem), but the lack of surrounding bars also means it will need to be a destination spot.
How do you guys feel about it?
