James told us back in June that the focus would “first and foremost be about the art.” Stepping inside, that art is certainly the most prominent feature. Originals, done by James, line the walls of the snug space, which themselves are painted with splatter designs. The whole thing has a bit of a darkly fantastical feel.
As for the café part of the business, Canvas sells prepackaged pastries as well as eight varieties of Belgian waffles ($9-16) with toppings like strawberries, bananas, yogurt, marshmallow, peanut butter, bacon, and more. They also serve coffee, espresso, and organic tea. James is currently waiting on a wine license and is planning a big Grand Opening bash after that.
Canvas is located at 348 6th Street, (347) 689-4228. Open 10 am – 9 pm Monday through Wednesday, 10 am – 10 pm Thursday & Friday, noon – 11 pm Saturday. Closed Sunday.
