Coming Soon: Luke's Lobster, 237 5th Avenue

Fifth Avenue is about to get a little more fishy, as Luke’s Lobster will be moving into the vacant space at 237 5th Ave, between Carroll and President Streets. The rumors have been confirmed by the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, which spoke with Luke’s vice president — and Park Slope local – Ben Conniff, who says the space should be open this spring.

“When we open a restaurant, we like to put down roots there and become invested in the community for the long term,” Ben told the Eagle, noting that 5th Avenue is where he does most of his eating and drinking. “We feel that Park Slope has the biggest community of residents and businesses with that commitment to their home and their neighbors, and that’s the vibe we want in our shack — regulars and friendly faces, and lot of frequent diner cards on the wall.”

This will the the 12th Luke’s Lobster location — they first opened in the East Village in 2009, and there are spots as far as Washington, D.C. They’re known, obviously, for their lobster — a lobster roll with soda, chips, and a pickle will set you back $17, though we’ve had them, and they are quite delicious.

Of course, they won’t be the only ones in the area selling tasty lobster rolls. Grand Central Oyster Bar Brooklyn, which opened in December diagonally across the street from this space, sells a lobster roll with fries and cole slaw for $20.95. Meanwhile over on 3rd Avenue, Littleneck is serving up a lobster roll that’s gotten a few accolades — it comes with pickles for $18.

It’ll be great to see this space alive again after having been empty for so many years – His & Hers Social and Athletic Club left one half long ago, and Joe’s Shoe Repair moved out of the other half a few years back. Because the space is still undergoing renovations, the Eagle reports Luke’s opening date is still a bit uncertain, but we’ll keep you posted as it gets closer.
