2 Duck Goose Is Bringing Modern Cantonese Cooking To 4th Avenue

As development continues to add height to buildings along 4th Avenue, it has also been adding some new interest for restaurants to the busy stretch of road, attracting businesses that didn’t use to mingle between the repair shops and car washes. And the newest venture hitting the street may be one of the most exciting yet.

2 Duck Goose will be opening soon at 400 4th Avenue, on the corner of 6th Street, in the space that formerly housed Anthony’s on 4th. According to their website, they’ll be cooking like we’re in Hong Kong, serving up “classic Cantonese dishes with added European flavors, looking to French technique for inspiration.”

The menu, which doesn’t include prices, looks pretty delicious — from pineapple buns to stir-fired smoked tofu; “paper bag fish,” which is a branzino on a persimmon fondue with roasted shiitake mushrooms steamed in parchment paper; and a roasted whole Cantonese duck “feast” that you have to pre-order.

That plus some photos they’ve shared on their Facebook page, and we’re just going to guess that this is going to be a step up from the Chinese take-out joints we’ve been ordering lo mein from all these years (and which, of course, we’ll still enjoy).

    We ate at the soft opening this weekend and REALLY enjoyed our meal! They’re still wrapping up the decor, but it is coming along nicely. Met the partners and they’re both really friendly, down-to-earth folks…made it feel like we were in their home. Will definitely be going back to this welcomed addition to 4th Ave.

    For those interested, we had the candied walnuts (spicy & sweet), cucumber/wood ear mushroom/daikon radish salad (light and very flavorful…cucumber sliced paper thin), soy sauce chicken (awesome! tasted homemade….super flavorful and fell right off the bone), stir-fried rice noodles (tasty), and two nice desserts which both hit the spot (a lemon tart and a sponge cake with ginger).
