This week you can laugh with the all-star Night Train lineup, contemplate free will over a Cartesian cocktail, or watch your favorite comedians do some karaoke.
Night Train With Wyatt Cenac
When: Monday August 19, 8 pm (7:30 doors)
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Another amazing lineup at Wyatt Cenac‘s weekly comedy show, featuring SNL’s John Mulaney, local favorite Eugene Mirman, and more. Tickets are miraculously still available but won’t be for long, so grab them soon!
How much: $8, tickets available here.
The Secret Science Club: It’s All In Your Mind!
When: Tuesday August 20, 8 pm (7:30 doors)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Join neuroscientist Heather Berlin as she delves into our deepest, darkest thoughts to ask questions like: Who’s really in control? Is there a neural basis for free will? What can brain imaging and neuropsychological experiments tell us about our emotions, obsessions, and compulsions? What purpose does consciousness serve? Lest things get too heavy, there will be, as always, plenty of dancing before and after the lecture, plus a Q&A and the “Cartesian cocktail.”
How much: Free!
The Jukebox Anniversary Show
When: Wednesday August 21, 8 pm (7:30 doors)
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: New York’s only monthly singalong comedy show celebrates its two years in the business, with comedians and entertainers like Baratunde Thurston, Beth Stelling, and Jamie Lee getting together to perform some sort of piece– be it a story, stand-up, sketch, etc.– inspired by a song, after which they “karaoke their hearts out” to said song. And as a special bonus just for tonight, live band karaoke will be available for everyone after the performances.
How much: $10 in advance (tickets available here), $12 at the door
