The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is holding its 5K Walk/Run on Sunday September 29 at 9:30am, in honor of the heroes who died in 9/11. The route begins at IKEA Parking Lot 9 in Red Hook and travels through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to Ground Zero. More information is available here.
The foundation was created in honor of Stephen Siller, a Squad Co. 1 firefighter who ran through the same tunnel on 9/11 to the World Trade Center, where he lost his life at the age of 34. Funds raised through the foundation, especially in the nationwide walk/runs, benefit “In the Line of Duty” programs for firefighters, first responders, and military, as well as “Legacy of Love” programs to help children who have lost one or both parents.
