Seventeen-year-old Misia Vessio and her 14-year-old brother Dante want to change the world. The sibling duo, both scholarship students at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Teen Jazz program, know exactly how they want to do it, too– they will travel worldwide, performing benefit concerts as family band VESSIO. Their mission statement continues:

Funds raised from these concerts could help to build hospitals, libraries and feed children in underdeveloped countries. Who cares about the “next big thing” unless they want to make positive changes in the world. Support VESSIO, a band that gives a damn. End the GREED and help them to “CHANGE THE WORLD.”

The duo cite The Beatles, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin as influences, which they channel in their mix of covers and originals. A deeper look at their Youtube page reveals that they have more on their side than just their [very impressive]music– their long list of skills also includes dance, martial arts, and sports.

VESSIO is performing one of those benefits this weekend, right in town. Stop by Tea Lounge (837 Union Street) tomorrow April 13 from 9 – 10:30 p.m.  for their Brooklyn Conservatory of Music benefit concert. There is a suggested donation of $15; all proceeds will benefit the Conservatory.
