School starts next week and education is in the air. These local kid’s events are about making learning fun– whether with food or music– or just offer one final bash before the school year begins.
Barclays Center Back-to-School Bash
When: Saturday September 7, 11am – 3pm
Where: Barclays Center Daily News Plaza
What: Come enjoy an educational resource fair, live music, fashion show, games, prizes, food trucks, and more. Youth groups from throughout Brooklyn will perform live, and the Kiddie Corner will offer face painting, a balloon artist, a temporary tattoo station, and puppetry arts. There will even be a life-size chess board. Plus, each RSVP enters you into a chance to win back to school prizes.

History In Your Hands: Playing With Food
When: Saturdays & Sundays September 7-29, 2 & 3pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Come to Lefferts and help staff to transform different foods and natural materials into tasty treats, fun games, and other crafts. Kids will help churn butter, grind corn, peel apples, and also learn how to make corn husk dolls and other fun crafts.
How much: $3 suggested donation
City Stomp Family Music Trial Class
When: Sunday September 8, 10am
Where: Spoke the Hub, 748 Union Street
What: Thinking about the City Stomp fall semester? Take advantage of a free trial of their Family Music Class (ages 6 months – 4 years). Families come together for a 45-minute class to sing, play, dance, shake instruments, and learn in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Children learn basic music skills like steady beat, following rhythms, and staying on pitch and have a lot of fun doing it.
