The Brooklyn Public Library begins Original Gangsters tonight, a new weekly film series at the Central Branch featuring classic mob movies curated by film critic Glenn Kenny. Tonight they’ll be screening The Beast of the City, a gritty crime movie starring Walter Huston and Jean Harlow and featuring everything we love about the genre: the upright police captain, the big bad mob boss, double agents, heists, and, of course, feminine wiles.
Slated for the following weeks are The Public Enemy (January 29) and Touchez Pas Au Grisbi (February 19).
10 Grand Army Plaza at the Dweck Center, 6:30-8:30 p.m., free.
