Last night, Die Koelner Bierhalle kicked off their version of the traditional German festival Koln Karneval. The carnival, also known as the Cologne Carnival, is a week-long time of festivity that begins the Thursday before Lent and ends on Ash Wednesday. Our very own German beer garden is celebrating with six days of party.
Live bands will perform Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00-9:00 p.m., and the fun continues on Sunday and Monday nights when the theme will be “Celebrate the Clown.” Tuesday brings Mardi Gras “Koln Style” which is vague but, knowing the joint, will most likely be a rowdy good time. Clown attire and costumes in general are encouraged.
For the kids, the Kiddie Karneval runs on Saturday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00-5:00 p.m. and offers face-painting, balloon twisting, and more clown.
(It goes without saying that those suffering from a clown phobia might want to sit this one out.)
Die Koelner Bierhalle is located at 84 St. Marks Place between 4th & 5th Avenues. For more information call (347) 227- 7238
