St. Patrick’s Day is this Sunday! Did your shipment of “Kiss Me I’m Irish” pins arrive? Have you fashioned the perfect green outfit?* Basically, are you ready for the Park Slope St. Patrick’s Day Parade??
The ceremony starts at noon at Prospect Park West and 15th Street with a dedication to Korean War Veterans, followed at 12:45 p.m. by a “re-dedication ceremony” to 9/11 heroes and victims. The procession begins at 1:00 p.m. and travels down 15th Street to Seventh Avenue where it goes to Garfield Place, then returns to Prospect Park West and marches up again to 15th Street. Be prepared for bagpipes, step dancers, and local Irish charm.
After the parade, the celebration continues at Holy Name Church’s Shepherd’s Hall (245 Prospect Park West), where there will be live music and a corn beef and cabbage dinner. Tickets cost $30; beer is included. An RSVP is required for the after-party, so call (718) 499-9482 to reserve your spot.
*True story: Last year someone scoffed at my bright green jeans, saying they were “really subtle,” which, fair– St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are nothing if not subtle.
