The animals at the Prospect Park Zoo have been very good all year and are now getting their holiday gifts. The zoo is giving everyone else the wonderful gift of allowing us to watch it happen.
“Presents to the Animals” events occur every weekend in December, at 11:00am and 3:30pm, with each session showcasing different animals “tearing into treat-filled bags and boxes.”
The schedule is as follows:
December 8/9: Baboons at both times
December 15/16: Golden lion tamarins (morning), Pallas’s cats (afternoon)
December 22/23: Meerkats (morning), Mongoose (afternoon)
December 29/30: Geoffrey’s tamarins (morning), North American river otters (afternoon)
More information (as well as videos of previous unwrappings) available here.
If you’re planning to check it out, consider bringing up a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Wildlife Conservation Society toy drive. The toys can be dropped at the park entrance and will be collected through December 31st. For every toy given, you’ll receive one free general admission to the Bronx Zoo. Donations from Prospect Park will go to children who live in communities hit by Hurricane Sandy.
