The weekend is in full swing, and there’s still plenty to do! Here’s what you have to look forward to.
FOR THE KIDS
Bounce Back To School Carnival
When: Saturday September 21, 11am-5pm
Where: PS9 Playground, 80 Underhill Avenue at St. Marks
What: Our Prospect Heights neighbors over at PS9 are hosting their second annual Bounce Back to School Carnival. It’s a major school fundraiser to make up for the significant gap in funds for their elementary school’s enrichment programs, and last year they raised $10,000. Plus, it’s fun for the whole family! This year’s carnival will feature five Bouncy Houses (including 1 for toddlers), face painting, carnival games, and a huge outdoor dance party by Baby Loves Disco! There will be BBQ, drinks, popcorn and other snacks for all to enjoy.
How much: $5 for adults, $2 for children, children under 2 enter for free. Tickets for bounce house (1 ticket), carnival games (1 ticket), and food (varies): $2/ticket, $10/6 tickets, $20/12 tickets, $35 for all-day bounce bracelet
When: Sunday September 22, 1-4pm
Where: Prospect Park, Lefferts Historic House
What: Come celebrate this year’s harvest the same way Brooklynites did centuries ago. Head to Lefferts to harvest, cook, and eat potatoes that were planted in our garden back in May. You can also run potato sack races!
How much: $3 suggested donation
FOR THE GROWNUPS
When: Saturday September 21 & Sunday September 22, 12-8pm
Where: Mission Dolores, 249 4th Avenue
What: Celebrate the season’s best drinking holiday at Mission Dolores, where there will be Oktoberfest beers, pumpkin ales, ciders, and special Gravity Cask tappings (in addition to the usual impressive and wacky craft beers they have on tap). Best of all? Der Kommissar will be in the courtyard grilling up sausages to order.
How much: Free!
When: Saturday September 21, 5:30pm-close; Sunday September 22, 3pm-close
Where: Die Koelner Bierhalle, 84 St. Marks Place
What: Another Oktoberfest celebration, this time from Park Slope’s first (and only?) authentic German beerhall. The festivities start this weekend, with a live German band and dancers, face painting, a Stein holding contest, an Oktoberfest surprise, and– of course– plenty of beer. Check the full lineup here.

2nd Annual Brooklyn Bluegrass Bash
When: Sunday September 22, 3-7pm (doors at 2pm)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: The Second Annual Brooklyn Bluegrass Bash is a benefit concert presented by by Arts at Old First for the ceiling restoration campaign of our very own Old First Reformed Church, and featuring Chris Thile & Michael Daves, Sarah Jarosz with Alex Hargreaves and Nathaniel Smith, The Deadly Gentlemen, Jen Larson, and more.
