Spring dresses are on display at The Gentlemen’s Shop, the charming boutique on Bergen Street which has until now focused on a mixture of men’s streetwear and contemporary apparel.
Women’s clothing and accessories now line the left side of the shop, and the inventory is in a similar style and price range as other Park Slope spot Habit. The racks are stocked with dresses and blouses from brands like Ark & Co., Esley, Under Skies, and Sweet Rain, and everything hovers around the $60-120 range.
The focus still seems to be on the men’s lines, and it’s obvious that customers are getting used to the transition. (Two women stopped in with male friends while I was there and asked with surprise, “When did this happen?”) The new stock came in just about a month ago, coinciding with the closure of the shop’s sister location, women’s boutique La Vedette.
The addition will certainly make the store more well-rounded, though they were working a good niche by offering a modern and more youthful take on classic menswear– their colorful collection of bowties is so great it had me considering a new look for myself. But now that the ladies are sharing the shop, is a name change in order?
The Gentlemen’s Shop is located at 458 Bergen Street between 5th & Flatbush Avenues, open Tues-Sat 12:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday 12:00-6:00 p.m., closed Monday.
