The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club wants to bring the world’s first shuffleboard night club to Gowanus, but they need your help to do it.
Co-founders Ashley Albert and Jonathan Schnapp, leaseholders on a 17,000-square-foot warehouse on Union Street between Third Avenue and Nevins Street, have spent the past two years garnering a liquor license, scouring for shuffleboard memorabilia, choosing glassware and flooring, and otherwise preparing the site for its new life. But they’ve turned to a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the most important renovation of all– the ten regulation-sized courts.
Want to know where exactly your money will go? Here’s the plan:
Your contributions to our Kickstarter will go towards completing the TEN regulation-sized shuffleboard courts we’ll all be playing on and putting our welcome mat out on by the end of November. We need to pour out 8 enormous truckloads (how many gallons is that?) of concrete from the Brooklyn Mix Concrete Company to make the sweetest, smoothest, fanciest shuffleboard courts this fine city has ever seen!
Once we pour the courts, we will start Brooklyn’s very FIRST Shuffleboard League right here and now with you, our Kickstarter community. We’ll kick off our Royal Palms Inaugural Shuffle Season starting in January. It’ll run for 12 weeks… 10 weeks of tournament play and two weeks of playoffs.
The only way to sign up for the shuffleboard league is by contributing, so if you’re interested act soon! You’ve got until October 25 to back the project. Donate here.
