If you’ve got a kid who loves to sing and dance, and the prospect of a long, cold winter stuck indoors doesn’t sound appealing, there are a lot of music classes starting up nearby that will get you guys out of the house, and into the groove.
Brooklyn Players
Where: Director Corinne Goodman’s home at 435 7th Street between 6th & 7th Avenues
When: Wednesdays 4-5:30pm
What: Music and singing classes for 4 and 5 year olds, utilizing Corinne’s nine years of Pre-K and Kindergarten teaching experience, and featuring a wide array of songs, rhythm instruments, games and movement.
Cost: 10 weeks of classes for $245 with a yearly non-refundable family registration fee of $25. Siblings receive a 5% discount.
Additional Info: The last class is celebrated by an informal recital with family and friends on March 20 at 5:00 p.m.

City Stomp Music
Where: Spoke the Hub, 748 Union Street at 6th Avenue
When: Wednesdays and Sundays at 9:30am & 10:30am
What: A 45 minute class where families and their children (infants up to age 4) can gather to sing, play, dance, shake instruments and learn in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Children learn basic music skills like steady beat and following rhythm and pitch, while listening to songs and sounds that evoke the city.
Cost: 10 weeks of classes costs $215, with a one-time fee of $15 for new families. Siblings are given a reduced rate of $135 and the third sibling is free. Registration information here.

What: Children ages 6 months to five years will explore music through song and gesture, dance and movement, rhythm training, and instrument play with their caregivers.
Cost: 10-week session is $275; $35 for each sibling fee of $35 for each additional sibling is for all sessions; siblings under 6 months are free. Fees will be pro-rated for late registration.

BONUS FOR THE OLDER KIDS
Brooklyn Guitar School
Where: 81 4th Avenue at St. Mark’s Place
When: Level I classes meet Tuesdays at 5:30pm and Saturdays at 11am
What: Group guitar classes for kids ages 7-11 geared toward absolute beginners. Students learn as they play along to some of their favorite rock songs starting on their very first day.
Cost: $89 per month for one fifty-five minute group class per week; $129 per month for unlimited fifty-five minute group classes per week. No students get a special deal of $99 for the first month of unlimited group classes per week. Enrollment is ongoing.
Additional Info: Sign up for a free introductory class on Saturdays at 11:30am (although this Saturday, January 5, is moved to 2:00pm) to get the basics before the Level I lesson. The school supplies guitars– no lugging the instrument back and forth.
