Last Chance Warning: See Steve Keene Paint Live

0

If you’ve been by the Central Library at Grand Army Plaza during the weekend at some point this month, chances are you’ve seen a guy with a crazy painting set-up, working on a bunch of different pieces all at once.

That’s artist Steve Keene, whose work you might recognize from album covers for artists like Pavement and The Dave Matthews Band, and the live painting has been a part of Steve Keene’s Brooklyn Experience, an exhibition for the library’s 2014 artist-in-residence that you’ve only got a little bit of time left to check out.

This is the first New York show for the 56-year-old artist, who works out of a studio in Greenpoint. He recently told the Wall Street Journal that the way he sells his art is a lot like the way someone might sell CDs, like at concerts and on a website.

“You remember buying the picture, participating in that activity,” he told them. “Maybe that is the most important thing.”

You can see some of his work in the grand lobby through August 29, and you can see him do some of that live painting in front of the library at 10 Grand Army Plaza on August 14, 15, and 16 from 11am-5pm. The paintings he makes will then be for sale until 6pm.
